African Medical Investments: funding in place and big potential
Posted 30/11/09
Hot on the heels of the announcement of a US$47m equity line agreement secured through Harbinger Capital Partners, the AIM listed company operating in the African healthcare sector announced encouraging results for the six months to 31st August 2009.
The Group appears to have made excellent progress in the period with its roll out strategy of state of the art private healthcare facilities and boutique hospitals across Africa.
Two new healthcare facilities were added to portfolio at Dar es Salaam and Cape Town International Airport and construction of the new facility at Maputo is well advanced and targeted to be operational by end of March 2010.
Management commented that there were impressive patient numbers at all facilities with encouraging performance at Dar es Salaam Trauma Centre & Well Woman Clinic as patient numbers increase monthly.
With funding in place to support expansion it all looks very positive with the target of 10 facilities in total by 2012 and 15 by 2015 and growing interest from health insurance companies, embassies & corporates. The Group is actively evaluating additional sites to complement the current portfolio including Nairobi, Kigali and Kampala with a target to open an additional four facilities by the end of 2010.
The concept to bring first world healthcare services across the African continent looks to have serious potential with demand for high quality medical services growing rapidly amongst the emerging middle classes, overseas businesses and tourists.
