In 2018, Walt Disney briefly lost its crown as the world's biggest media company to streaming company Netflix. Investors were worried that Disney was being left behind as Netflix stole the march in the future of the media industry. But with Disney in the process of tackling Netflix head on with its own streaming service, we think there is hidden value in this company.


In 2012, Walt Disney (US: DIS) spent $4.1bn on Lucas Film, the production company behind the Star Wars franchise. Three years later Star Wars: The Force Awakens made more than $2bn at the global box office, by 2018 three more films had grossed a further $2.5bn and this year, Disney World Florida will get a new Star Wars themed land which is expected to significantly boost footfall and ticket prices.
