Most great British tech companies get snapped up by international peers. Others simply aren’t great enough. The result is that Ocado is now the biggest technology company in Britain.


Ocado’s (LON: OCDO) history might be synonymous with Waitrose food home delivery, but its future is firmly staked on the sale of software and robots. That is why chief executive Tim Steiner has successfully applied to change its stock market designation from grocery to tech. Thus, if it can maintain its £8.7bn market capitalisation in 2020 (certainly not a given), it will become the UK’s largest technology company.
