In 2001, Andy Walters left his job as Managing Director of tech company Arcom to set up Quartix (QTX) just as the dot.com boom turned to bust. In this interview, he admits that was perhaps a slightly riskier move than he realised at the time.
But it was a risk worth taking, now that his once small Cambridge-based company, has transformed into a £122m business with operations in France and the US.
Quartix specialises in fleet vehicle tracking and management – a market that was valued at around $6bn in the US in 2016 and is expected to grow at 7% a year for the next decade. The company’s technology, which has been installed in over half a million vehicles since 2001, offers real time tracking to help fleet vehicle owners run their businesses efficiently.
