As post-Christmas trading updates begin to emerge, it is clear which sections of the retail market are thriving and which are already in need of another holiday.


1. Alcohol – winner

The proportion of adults in the UK who drink is falling. Thus, the fact that pub groups, alcohol retailers and breweries had a sparkling Christmas perhaps suggests that those of us who do drink are drinking a lot more than we used to.
